Growing up on the farm
About the farmer…
Jason Shenk along with his father Jerry, wife Amy, kids, and the family dog and cats run Shenk Family Enterprise. Jason is a second-generation farmer and learned a lot about farming from his father like the importance of hard work and discipline. Jason shared “The farm doesn’t take days off. Daily chores, from feeding livestock to tending crops, build a relentless work ethic and the discipline to show up, no matter the conditions.” Jason and Jerry are excited to work with Farmer Focus because of the higher profits and financial security, the support for sustainable farming, and the emphasis on community and transparency. When asked what his favorite thing to do on the farm is Jason said “Tending to the animals. There’s something grounding about starting the day with the quiet of the morning, feeding chickens or livestock, and watching them thrive under your care.” When he’s not working on the farm with the chickens or the cattle that they raise, Jason enjoys spending time outdoors with his family.
