Farm ID: HUCH
Christy opens the doors on the chicken houses in the morning to let them out to pasture for the day.
Following certified humane standards means there is access to natural light for every chicken house. Christy has these windows alongside the whole house.
Christy's partner, Jimmy, helped install the enrichments, windows, and fencing to meet humane standards.
Tech on the farm
This computer tracks how much the chickens drink per day and the temperatures/air quality of the chicken house. Farmers can access and make changes from an app on their phone.

About the farmer…
If you can survive the harrowing hills of Trissels Road in Broadway, Virginia, you’ll come to a cool and shady Hungry Hollow Farm. Born on her family’s farm, Christy Halterman raises chickens for Farmer Focus alongside her boyfriend Jimmy, their daughter, and their sweet dog Wrangler. Little Patricia loves to “help” by “supervising” the chickens when they’re outside during the day. A typical day starts with a check on the flock but fills up quickly with gardening, working in the greenhouse, additional checks, and cooking what they’ve grown themselves.
Christy loves farming because it allows her to be diversified and provide for many of her family’s needs. Farmer Focus is a great fit for her because it allows her to earn fair pay without spending most of it on unnecessary upgrades.
