About the farmer…
Chris & Vicky Showalter are the owners of Sugar Maple Farm, which got its name from the sugar maple trees behind the poultry houses. Chris is fifth-generation farmer and learned a lot from his father. He is passing this knowledge to his children that help him on the farm today. The Showalters like working with Farmer Focus because it allows them to help provide people with food and they can create a self-sustaining source of livelihood. In addition to raising birds, various crops including wheat, corn, and rye are grown on Sugar Maple Farm. Traceability is a big focus for Chris and Vicky, and they appreciate that Farmer Focus helps connect consumers with where their food comes from. When they aren’t working on the farm, the Showalters enjoy spending time with as a family fishing, swimming, and working on building projects.
